Still Hiding Behind the Burqa

French Lawmakers Puffing Smoke...

To many it would seem bizarre in a way to think that a mere 2,000 veiled women are causing a major bill to be passed in France. 2,000 is a spit in the bucket when it comes to the total population of women in the European country. Yet President Sarkozy calls the Islamic veil, better known as the burqa, a "sign of enslavement and debasement".
-
Seems like an overreaction to me.
-
Don't get me wrong. The infamous burqa is a bit to conservative for my taste. However, I would be the last person on earth to tell anybody to stop wearing a symbol of their chosen religion. After all, in France and the rest of Europe, the women wearing these veils are doing so of their own free choice. Nobody is forcing the Islamic symbol of modesty upon them (like the women of Iran are forced to).
-
So the question has to be asked... why so furious over a symbol? Or better put... "why so serious?"
-
Throughout the term of Sarkozy's presidency the government of France has become more and more corrupt. Cronyism has become the normal way of appointment (much like Obama's picks for the Supreme Court). The bank accounts of France's newly appointed leaders have grown fat while the populous suffers through a worldwide recession. Then to top things off, the fat cats are routinely seen gorging themselves at government funded dinners with their tarts of wives hanging off their arms.
-
Yet these "moral" authorities are the ones leading the charge against the many different Islamic headscarves?
-
No feminazis here. Not even a single woman on the line actually. So you have to ask the question... "why so serious?"
-
It isn't like the Muslims are asking ol' saint Nicolas to wear a burqa. They aren't even asking his wife to wear a simple headscarf. Yet the president is the only real political leader leading the charge in France.
-
The only explanation outside of statewide corruption is isolationism. Over the years more and more foreigners have been moving into the European Union. Many of these are beginning to come from nations where Islam is the major religion. Many more are coming from areas of the world where white is not the normal skin color.
-
Now that France is seemingly being "overrun" by Muslims it is starting to drawl the line in the sand. Even though in no way are these devout Muslims trying to overtake the Christian West, France's natives are feeling threatened. And this right wing President is beginning to feel the pressure of religious and ethnic tensions.
-
But my money is squarely on the fact that Sarkozy is running a corrupt organization and wants something to take the focus off him and his government.
